I discovered a Nashville-based phenomenon called ‘writers’ rounds’ a good few years ago, and had the privilege of attending some myself in Nashville in 2025. Four songwriters sit in a circle or ‘round’, and each take it in turns to tell the stories behind the songs they have written, before playing the song itself. Sometimes the story takes double the amount of time to tell as the song does to play. I launched Songwriters’ Rounds in the North East of England in 2025, and recently completed a short-run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the Pianodrome, a home for recycled pianos. The rounds are starting to host international, national and local guests, and attracting attention further afield. I am developing how their format can continue and help spread the message and mission of songwriters throughout the UK - Eve x
